Jean Mitry: Between Phenomenology and Film Analysis

Professor and Chair of the Program in the History and Aesthetics of Media at Friedrich Schiller University of Jena, Professor Sierek will offer a new reading of Mitry’s often underestimated Esthétique et psychologie du cinéma focusing on Mitry’s concept of the “total image,” an image type that had a significant influence on modern cinema at the beginning of the 1960s, and which now can be considered as emblematic of the  various new waves.
