Yuriko Furuhata is an assistant professor of film and visual culture in the Department of East Asian Studies and World Cinemas Program at McGill University in Montréal, Canada.

Her work explores theories of the image, avant-garde arts, politics, experimental filmmaking and media practice with an emphasis on Japan.

She has just completed a monograph on the political avant-garde filmmaking and its appropriation of media events in 1960s Japan (Cinema of Actuality, Duke University Press, forthcoming in 2013). Her new research project is on the historical connections between expanded cinema, architecture, and the security industry.
